Dosing and Administration of Neurontin tablets

  • Neurontin is prescribed orally together with food or regardless of diet. If you need to reduce the dose, discontinue the drug or replace it with an alternative drug, it should be done gradually for at least one week.
  • Adult patients with neuropathic pain are prescribed an initial dose of 900 mg per day in equal 3 divided doses. If necessary, the dose is gradually increased to a maximum of 3.6 g per day. Therapy can be started immediately with a dose of 900 mg per day (300 mg 3 times a day) or it can be gradually increased to the specified value within the first 3 days. This is done according to the following scheme: day 1 – 300 mg once a day, day 2 – 300 mg 2 times a day, day 3 – 300 mg 3 times a day.
  • Children over the age of 12 and adults with partial seizures are prescribed a dose from 900 mg to 3.6 g per day. It is recommended to start treatment with a dose of 300 mg 3 times a day (on the first day) or it can be gradually increased to 900 mg according to the scheme described above. Then, the dose can be increased to a maximum of 3.6 g per day (divided into 3 equal doses).
  • Also, Neurontin is well tolerated in doses up to 4.8 g per day. With a three-time intake of the drug, the maximum interval between doses should not be more than 12 hours (in order to avoid the resumption of seizures).
  • Neurontin should be prescribed in a dose of 300-400 mg, and then use it at 200-300 mg every 4 hours of hemodialysis for persons who are on hemodialysis and who have not previously taken the drug.
  • The initial dose of Neurontin for children aged 3-12 years ranges from 10 to 15 mg/kg of body weight per day. In this case, the frequency of intake is 3 times a day in equal doses. The increase in dose to the most effective one is carried out within about 3 days.

The most effective dose: 40 mg/kg body weight per day (in equal doses in 3 intakes) for children aged 3 to 5 years old and 25-35 mg/kg of body weight per day (in equal doses in 3 intakes) for children aged 5 years and older. The maximum interval between doses of Neurontin should not be more than 12 hours (to avoid the resumption of seizures).
